The Sacred Architecture of the Soul: Inside the Divine Multiples Series

We often navigate the world as if we are contained entirely within the margins of our physical bodies. But as creators, thinkers, and seekers, we know the truth is far more expansive. Our internal life is vast, chaotic, beautiful, and fluid—a continuous cycle of creation, destruction, and renewal.

This tension between the physical form and the boundless spirit is the heartbeat behind my latest collection, the Divine Multiples / Internal Life Series.

Through these paintings, I wanted to step away from literal representation and dive into a Fauvist-Surrealist fusion. By combining high-contrast palettes, rich textures, and symbolic forms, these works serve as modern icons for the contemporary soul—visual mappings of an internal life that refuses to be confined.

This collection is envisioned as an unfolding 8-part sequence. Here is an intimate look at the first four steps of that journey.

1. Icon of the Divine Multiples

Every spiritual excavation needs an anchor. Icon of the Divine Multiples sets the tone for the entire series, presenting a singular, meditative figure enveloped in an expansive cloak or robe.

The figure sits beneath a radiant arc of warm golds and deep oranges, balancing the cool, cascading blues and greens of the shroud. It captures the spirit in a state of quiet contemplation, completely contained yet vibrating with potential. It is the visual threshold of the internal self, standing at the doorway of the subconscious.

2. Terra Es Spiritu Sancti (Earth is the Holy Spirit)

Where the Icon introduces the figure, Terra Es Spiritu Sancti grounds the soul's exploration into a sacred, holistic identity. Executed with fluid, expressive watercolor, this piece focuses heavily on organic symmetry and growth.

Flanked by vibrant, leaf-like forms that rise from the earth, the central figure is crowned with a ring of fire and a brilliant halo. At its absolute center sits a striking void. This isn't an empty space of lack, but rather a quiet, still center—a sacred womb of potential from which all internal life springs. It serves as a reminder that our spirits are woven into the very fabric of creation.

3. Ascension

Where Terra finds balance in the quiet center, Ascension breaks away into pure, kinetic upward movement. This piece features three soaring, cosmic figures unbound by gravity, climbing through a turbulent, emotional atmosphere of deep purples and rhythmic blues.

To bring this vision to life, I utilized rich textures and layered glazes to create a contemporary take on traditional religious iconography. The fiery streaks of light cutting through the background mirror the way our own internal breakthroughs can feel chaotic yet profoundly beautiful. It captures the exact moment the spirit remembers how to fly.

4. Emergence

The anchor of this first phase is Emergence, a piece that feels simultaneously ancient and deeply cosmic. Set against a high-contrast backdrop of fiery oranges and deep, shadowed recesses, the focal point is a striking, horizontal cosmic eye.

Emergence is about the raw process of self-actualization. Centered around a brilliant white hole, the composition depicts a sudden, irrepressible emission of light breaking through the darkness. When we finally allow our true internal selves to be witnessed, that light cannot be dimmed or hidden. It forces its way out, beautifully reshaping the world around it.

Bringing the Internal Life Into the World

The Divine Multiples series has been a profound reminder that we all contain multitudes. We are not just one static thing; we are a sacred cycle of shifting emotions, depths, and heights.

These original paintings are a private conversation made public, but their journey doesn’t end on the studio wall. To bring these concepts into the rhythm of daily life, I am currently partnering with Le Galeriste and developing my own merchandise on my Practicing Art E-commerce Website to translate the textures and emotional weight of these pieces into high-end wearable art and home accessories—allowing our external environments to match our internal landscapes.

Ruth Williamson

🎨 Artist Statement and Bio: Ruth Williamson

Ruth Williamson is a contemporary landscape artist whose evocative work in gouache and watercolor on wood panels or paper captures the serene yet powerful essence of natural vistas. Deeply rooted in the dynamic spirit of Fauvism, Expressionism, Impressionism, and Surrealism, her style is a unique synthesis that explores the emotional and inherent beauty of both rugged and expansive landscapes.

The Vision: Cosmic Cycles, Equity, and Renewal

Williamson draws inspiration from the rich and varied terrains of the United States and the British Isles, with a particular focus on the American West, the vibrancy of the skies, and the fluid grace of flowing streams and waterfalls. Her aesthetic is defined by a bold, distinctive approach to color and light, one that often blends hues not typically found in nature. She views color as the heartbeat of her art, using it to create a tapestry of familiarity and imagination.

At the core of her artistic vision is a deep reflection on the sacred cycles of creation, destruction, and renewal—the eternal rhythm of birth, death, and potential rebirth that pervades the Cosmos and the natural world. Her work seeks to capture this possibility of regeneration amidst decay, offering a lens through which to view hope and resilience.

While landscapes are her primary subject, Williamson also explores figurative work, animal studies, and still life's. Her foundational art practice emphasized an intensive study of complementary, analogous, and contrasting hues, allowing her to continually refine her craft.

Extending the Canvas: Wearable Art and Resistance

In an exciting evolution of her creative vision, Williamson partners with Le Galeriste to transform her vibrant artworks into high-end wearable fashion and home accessories. This Wearable Art initiative ethically adapts her expressive paintings to soft, high-quality fabrics, allowing collectors to experience the life and energy of her original compositions on casual clothing.

Her art is conceived as an act of resistance against authoritarianism and the existential threat to liberty, championing a message of equity, liberty, and justice. By focusing on the foundational ethics of inclusion, her work aims to inspire conscious appreciation and active participation in moving toward a more harmonious, equitable world.

The Practice: Minimalism and Reflection

In all her work, Williamson's approach is direct and minimalist, aiming to distill the essence of the subjects she portrays. She aspires to create a reflective space where viewers can find a momentary escape, experiencing the peace and serenity of the natural world she depicts. Her art offers a window into a serene and harmonious world, underscoring her belief in the essential societal role of art to enrich lives.

Today, her creative practice extends beyond visual art to include writing essays and sharing her thoughts on Substack, embracing her role as an artist and writer who is continually producing new pieces for sale and personal reflection.
